Official Westlife Fan Club History

The club was established back in 2000 and was headed by Mon Dador. The club was recognized by SONY BMG (BMG Records Pilipinas). The only way  to join the club back then was getting a membership form from CH Magazine and sending it via snail mail. The club became inactive after a few years, but was rebuilt in 2006 by the current head Katrina Marie Cabrera.

The club became more active last year, (2010) and hosted meet ups and gatherings amongst the members.

Enter 2011 and the club was starting to be recognized by the officials again. Namely: Sony Music, Manila Concert Scene, various radio stations and concert producers.

The club is at its highest this year as it slowly, but surely makes its mark among the Filipino Westlife fans around the country and out.

With this outlook, the club looks like it's here to stay active for more years to come.

Westlife returning to SA

Westlife are returning to South Africa in September.

The Irish group will join the likes of Watershed and Lianie May at the Deuriemikke Carnival on Saturday 17 September at Supersport Park in Centurion.

Westlife’s success has been most apparent in their homeland and the UK although their repeated visits to South Africa underline their support base in South Africa.

The quartet – comprising Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, Nicky Byrne, and Shane Filan – have released 11 albums and has had over 44 million sales up to date. They’ve garnered 14 number one singles in the United Kingdom, the third-highest in UK history, with their first seven singles going straight to the top of the chart.

The Official Charts Company announced that Westlife are the second biggest selling artist and biggest selling band of the decade, beating Coldplay in the UK with their 11million album sales.

Tickets to see Westlife at Deuriemikke are available at www.ticketbreak.co.za.

Wonderland chat Westlife, Boyzone, The Kixx AND Olly Murs

The Wonderland girls exclusively chat to us about touring with Westlife, Boyzone, The Kixx AND Olly Murs
WE couldn’t be more envious of The Wonderland girls right now.

Not only have hot new girl group Wonderland toured with Boyzone and Westlife, they are now hitching a ride along with one of the nicest blokes in pop Olly Murs as he tours the country.

And they are also new BFFs with uber cool new boyband The Kixx (we can vouch for the fact they are pretty blimmin lovely too).

With their first debut album on its way, a trip to LA to film their latest video for single Starlight and a half-time performance at the WNBA Live on Sunday all part of their manic schedule we were excited just to bag five minutes of their time today.

And here’s how our chat with Wonderland’s Corrina went:

Thanks for slotting us into your hectic schedule. How’s it going?
It’s crazy! But definitely better to be busy than not!

So you’re performing at WNBA Live on Sunday…
Yes we’re really excited. It’s the first WNBA to be played in Europe so a big occasion.
Have you ever played basketball yourself?
I played basketball back at school but not since.

So how DO you all stay so fit and gorgeous?
Some of us go to the gym but the main thing is eating healthily on the road. It’s easy to eat Burger King and KFC on the road. When we’re on stage for 30 minutes dancing around that keeps us fit.

Talking of fit, you’re touring with the gorgeous Olly Murs at the moment. How’s that?
It’s brilliant. He’s the nicest guy you could ever meet. He’s so sweet, really warm, bubbly and very talented. We learn things from him as well.

And what kind of reaction are you getting from his fans?
Amazing. They’re young girls so we were worried how they would react. But their Twitter and Facebook comments have been amazing. They have been so warm and welcoming.

The Kixx lads are also along for the ride. They’re lovely boys aren’t they?
They are so sweet and extremely talented. Me and the girls have got a little friendship with them. We wish them all the best.

So tell us about your first album (out June 6)
It’s self titled. And sound-wise it’s a mixture for everybody. Some up tempo, fun songs for younger girls. Some strong, heartfelt ballads. And even a country twang. We worked really hard at it and co-wrote two of the songs. We just wanted good quality music. We wanted to get the right songs and we didn’t want album fillers. Every song is as good as the one before.

Was the video for Starlight fun to make?
We were in LA. The video is about going on a road trip and that’s exactly what we did.

You lived every girl’s dream by touring with both Boyzone AND Westlife. Tell us EVERYTHING!
It was amazing. I loved Boyzone first when I was younger and then Westlife. I went to one of Westlife’s signing so for me to be on stage supporting them was amazing. I used to go to their concerts with my cousin. At one point we were supporting both Boyzone and Westlife at the same time. They’re so confident on stage. You take a little bit with you from them every night. It was also good to get experience in front of different crowds.

Did the lads give you lots of words of wisdom?
They were constantly giving us advice. Obviously Kian manages us and Mark gave us loads of advice. Ronan Keating would come into our dressing room and tell us to have a good time. He was constantly telling us to have confidence because if you’re nervous then the crowd can feel that.

We’re green with envy. What’s the best thing about being in a girlband?
Having such a loving friendship and having your four best friends around you. We tell each other everything, we’re so close, we laugh together, cry together. I can’t imagine doing this with anybody else.
What’s the key to making sure you all stick together?
Honesty is the best policy. If there’s anything we need to say we sit down and talk about things and get it off our chest.

Wonderland will be performing at half time at WNBA Live – Manchester 2011 when the Atlanta Dream take on the Standard Life Great Britain women’s basketball team at the MEN Arena on Sunday 29 May. Tickets are available from www.men-arena.comwww.ticketmaster.co.uk or 0844 847 8000

Westlife - Irish Stars Perform For Obama

Irish acts Westlife, Imelda May and Jedward welcomed U.S. President Barack Obama to their native country with a special concert held in his honour.

The U.S. President and his wife Michelle visited the Emerald Isle on Monday (23May11) and were treated to a concert by some of Ireland's biggest stars at College Green, Dublin.

Over 20,000 fans showed up to see the free show, which was followed by a speech from Obama.
Pop siblings John and Edward Grimes, better known as Jedward, even scored an invitation to visit the Obamas at the White House.

In a series of posts on Twitter.com, the duo writes: "We met Barack Obama, it was a moment that will go down in History for Jedward. We were talking to Barack Obama about the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

"When we saw Michelle Obama we gave her a Jedward Hug and we were talking about going to the White House to meet her daughters. We can't wait to go to the White House!"

Musicians entertain 60,000 at event

A number of Irish artists including Jedward and Westlife played to an estimated 60,000 people at College Green in Dublin this evening.

The musicians entertained athe crowd ahead of a speech by US president Barack Obama.

Mundy, the Saw Doctors, the Coronas, Sharron Shannon and Imelda May also performed.

GAA commentator Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh introduced a number of prominent Irish sports stars to the crowd including boxer Katie Taylor, Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane, golfer Padraig Harrington and the Irish rugby team captain Brian O’Driscoll, who was carrying the Heineken Cup his Leinster team won in Cardiff on Saturday.

Actor Brendan Gleeson spoke of Ireland’s past and its present economic difficulties. “I am fed up looking at the ground, it is time to stand up,” he said to wild applause from mostly youthful crowd. Saoirse Ronan and Stephen Rea also addressed the crowd.

Earlier, gardaí closed access to the event with only those already in the queue being granted access.
There have been reports of pushing and shoving, a lack of gardaí and stewards at certain points and a crush near the top of the queue. There were also reports of people leaping over barricades. There are no reports of injuries.
People started queuing from last night at barriers at the junction of Parliament Street and Dame Street for access to the event.

First in the queue was Dubliner Adrian Kavanagh, who started queueing at 11pm last night. "I thought there would be a few hundred people here by the time I got there, but I was the only one," he said.

He was joined by Maeve Beecher from Cork who came by bus from Cork last night. "We got about two hours' sleep last night. We didn't want to be caught in a huge queue."

A large screen has been erected near the junction of South William Street and Dame Street for the overflow.

Mix of acts to entertain the crowds at capital's main event

By Ken Sweeney Entertainment Editor
Monday May 23 2011

BONO can't make it. But Saoirse and Jedward are pulling out all the stops.

An eclectic mix of musicians, actors and sports people will take to the stage at College Green, Dublin, this afternoon to entertain US President Barack Obama and a crowd of around 26,000.

RTE presenter Ryan Tubridy, MC at the event, told the Irish Independent he regarded the role as an "honour and a privilege".

Jedward, Westlife, Imelda May, The Sawdoctors, Sharon Shannon, Mundy, The Coronas, Mike Scott and Steve Wickham of the Waterboys, Ryan Sheridan, the National Chamber Choir and soprano Celine Byrne are among those performing.

Saoirse Ronan, Daniel Day Lewis, Brendan Gleeson, Brian O'Driscoll, Henry Shefflin and Robbie Keane will also be appearing.

The finale will be an address by Mr Obama in the same spot from where Bill Clinton spoke in 1995.
The event is expected to start at 3pm.

Jedward and Westlife - perfect openers for Obama

Niall O'Dowd is unimpressed with the warm-up acts for President Obama's speech at College Green in Dublin this afternoon. The two headline acts are Westlife, a rapidly aging boy band, andJedward, well, if you don't know you probably don't want to know.

O'Dowd's problem seems to be that these two groups (acts/bands/whatever) are completely devoid of talent. He feels they compare badly with Van Morrison, who preceded President Clinton's address in Belfast in 1995. He's right about that. When Morrison sang his song Days Like This the President and the massive throng gathered to cheer him sang along in joy at the prospect of peace. It was a real moment of meaning, something people remember and look back on fondly.

I agree with O'Dowd on Van Morrison and how he compares with Westlife {photo} and Jedward, but today doesn't call for a singer/song-writer of Morrison's ability. Why? Because unlike in 1995 when the people of Belfast, indeed the people all over Ireland, had a real reason to cheer and celebrate the American President, today's love fest has nothing whatsoever to do with anything President Obama has done for Ireland or anything else he has done since taking office.

If today's large crowd was there to cheer the President for his boldness in waging war and especially for the operation that killed Osama bin Laden, I'd be thrilled. Yet, I know that a large chunk - possibly the majority - of those who'll be there will either be indifferent or uneasy about all that.

The mostly young (I'm guessing) crowd can hardly be there to thank the President for the fact that his Treasury Secretary shot down a better bailout deal for Ireland. After all, quite a few amongst the gathering will undoubtedly have to leave Ireland in the not-too-distant future because we owe a debt that we cannot repay priced in a currency we can neither afford nor control.

Maybe they hope that by showering the President with adulation today he will be so moved that he will start pumping Green Cards into the crowd with one of those air cannons they use for tee shirts at sporting events. If that's their motivation then I say "Good luck to them," but there's no hope of that.

The truth is none of that matters to the crowd. They will yell and shout and cheer the President's speech, which I expect to be mostly feel-good platitudes and little else. There will be nothing of any real importance said and his starry-eyed audience will adore him for it.

In other words, he'll look good and he'll probably sound good, but there will be no substance to his lyrics or his performance - just like Jedward and Westlife.

Obama concert line-up is announced

Westlife, Jedward, Imelda May and The Sawdoctors are among the acts which will perform at a celebration concert in honour of US President Barack Obama in College Green later today.

Jedward - Among those performing at event

Entitled 'Yes We Can - Is Féidir Linn', the concert will also celebrate Irish sporting achievements with appearances from, among others, Katie Taylor and Brian O'Driscoll.
Actors including Brendan Gleeson and Daniel Day Lewis will also appear.
Gardaí have advised that gates will open at 2pm.

Imelda May will be among the performers this evening

Cameras and mobile phones are permitted, however attendees are advised they cannot bring food or drinks.
No sharp objects or umbrellas are to be carried, nor are flags or banners, back packs or bags.
MC Ryan Tubridy has said the event will be a celebration of all things Irish and will send a postcard to Washington to say 'This is what we do best'.

Thousands expected to attend free public event

MARY FITZGERALD

COLLEGE GREEN ADDRESS: THOUSANDS ARE expected to gather on College Green this evening to hear US president Barack Obama give the only public address of his visit to Ireland.

Mr Obama, who will be accompanied by first lady Michelle Obama, will take the stage in front of the portico of the Bank of Ireland following introductory remarks by Taoiseach Enda Kenny. The couple’s children, Malia and Sasha, are not travelling to Ireland as they are in school.

Mr Obama’s speech is expected to dwell largely on the ties that bind Ireland and the US.

“It’s a chance to talk about the enormous affinity that Americans have for Ireland, rooted in part in the huge population of Irish-Americans . . . It is a speech about the ties between our peoples, rather than a statement on policy,” said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications and a speechwriter for the president.

Westlife, Jedward and Imelda May, along with actors Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea, Daniel Day-Lewis, Saoirse Ronan and Gabriel Byrne, will help warm up the crowd before Mr Obama arrives.

Sporting stars Pádraig Harrington, Robbie Keane and Brian O’Driscoll are expected to make appearances, as are Sharon Shannon,
Mundy, the Coronas, the National Chamber Choir, the Sawdoctors, soprano Celine Byrne and songwriter Ryan Sheridan.
Music promoters MCD, who are involved in planning the event, have quashed speculation that U2, who are currently on tour in the US, may perform. “Whilst the band would have loved to participate, they are unable to do so, due to prior commitments in the US,” a spokesman said.

The event, which the Government has billed a “public celebration”, has been planned to last 90 minutes, but may be shortened on the day. Croke Park was rejected as a venue by the White House because it did not “look Irish” enough to use as a backdrop.

The event is open to the public and is free. Tickets will not be required. People have been advised to arrive early – security gates open at 2pm, three hours before the programme starts.

The public are advised they should enter the security gates at the intersection of Parliament Street and Dame Street in front of Dublin Castle. They will have to arrive from the west or north as other access routes will be blocked. Adjoining streets will be blocked and parking severely restricted. Banners, umbrellas, bags, food and beverages will not be allowed, though cameras and mobile phones will be.
