Westlife star Nicky Byrne insists he respects Simon Cowell

By Vicky Allison

Westlife star Nicky Byrne has insisted he has the utmost ‘respect and admiration’ for Simon Cowell after previously claiming the music mogul was too busy to manage the Irish band properly.

Following Westlife’s split from Cowell’s Syco label last month after 13 years, singer Nicky had spoken about the group’s relationship with the X Factor boss.

He had said the band felt ‘unloved’ under Cowell’s management.
But today the 32-year-old took to his Twitter page to clear things up.

Nicky wrote: ‘For the record. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Simon Cowell. He was an excellent A&R man for us and delivered us unprecedented success globally with Westlife.

‘By me saying we felt unloved was a comment made on why we made our decision to leave Syco as a company.’

He then went on to thank the 51-year-old for helping him to get where he is today.

The singer said: ‘After a 13 year stint, it was the right time to begin something new with fresh faces and ideas. All sides felt the same and and no bad feelings were felt anywhere. We still are hugely thankful to Syco records and Simon Cowell as without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.

‘But 13 years is a long time in music and we all felt a change was needed! Hope that clears things up. Happy Easter!!’
