Westlife’s Kian falls victim to Twitter hacker

By Ken Sweeney Entertainment Editor

WESTLIFE star Kian Egan was last night forced to deny reports he was leaving Westlife after his Twitter account was hacked.

Some 70,000 followers to his Twitter account @KianEganWL were shocked to read a series of tweets allegedly from the Sligo singer, saying he was to walk away from the group.

“Got a very sad announcement everyone, I am leaving Westlife to concentrate on managing Wonderland. I haven’t taken this decision lightly . . . The boys are going to continue as a three piece . . . I am leaving.”

Originating from Egan’s official Twitter account, the tweets prompted panic among the group’s thousands of fans.

The confusion was made worse in the hours that followed after Egan’s Twitter account was deleted.

However, Egan told the Irish Independent last night “I am not leaving Westlife. My Twitter was hacked.”

Bogus

The 31-year-old boyband star said he first became aware of the bogus messages when he was called by a UK journalist at 6.30pm last night.

Contacting his UK record label he had attempted to have the tweets removed but instead found his Twitter account deleted.

The star said that the bogus tweets had also been read by the other members of Westlife who then contacted him.

“Everyone has rung me in the last hour from our manager Louis Walsh to Nicky (Byrne) to Mark (Feehily). They all knew straight away it wasn’t true but Mark did manage to make a joke out of it and said I had him sweating for a while. Shane (Filan) didn’t call because he is not on Twitter,” Egan said.

Last night fellow Westlife member Feehily attempted to assure fans when he tweeted “Don’t worry my little cherubs Kian HAS been hacked . . . he’s not leaving!”
