FANS of the boy band Westlife have been left in a state of high excitement after learning their favourites will be performing in Doncaster this summer.
It was officially confirmed yesterday afternoon that the Irish group is to perform a major open-air gig at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday July 30.
Stadium officials were initially tight-lipped about speculation over the concert, but publicity for the event had already been launched.
Soccer fans who attended the Rovers match against Crystal Palace on Good Friday couldn’t help but see posters in some parts of the ground, and when they returned to their cars they found flyers attached to their windscreens.
The early advertising put the cat among the pigeons at the Stadium Management Company, with their official public relations people taken by surprise, but they realised it was an open secret.
Since the weekend Westlife fans have been filling internet message forums with expressions of delight.
Shane Chalmers, chief executive of the Stadium Management Company, said: “We are delighted to be welcoming Westlife to the Keepmoat Stadium on July 30 for what is set to be a fantastic family concert.
“We will be announcing the on-sale date for tickets in the next few days and, given the excitement already on social media sites regarding this event, we are expected tickets to get snapped up quickly.
“Hosting large concerts like this is a real boost to the town and the local economy and we are looking forward to a superb event.”
